In 2001 Sun Fire would become the successor platform of Suns Enterprise line of machines.
A new generation of SunSPARC processors signaled the phasing in of Suns new offering across the three main market segments (high-end, mid-range and entry level). This series would also display the flexibility of Sun to adapt to emerging technologies by way of non SPARC based platforms incorporating processors from Intel and AMD.
