Hewlett Packard was founded in 1939 by William Hewlett and David Packard. Originally the company persued a number of electronics market segments ranging from audio oscillators to test equipment to calculators. However in the 1960s after partnering with Japanese companies Sony, Yokogawa Electric and for a brief period DEC, HP threw their full weight into internal semiconductor development.
